Dental implants can not only provide superior stability, but they also provide stimulation to the jawbone to stop or prevent the bone loss that can occur with missing teeth.

Are You a Candidate for Full Mouth Dental Implants?

Tooth Loss

Full mouth dental implants are designed to replace an entire arch of teeth. If you are only missing one or a few teeth, other implant-supported restorations, such as a crown or bridge, may be better for you.

Bone Density

Bone atrophy can occur with a single missing tooth. Dr. Lopez will evaluate if you have sufficient bone material to proceed with dental implant surgery. For those with significant bone loss, bone grafting can help you qualify for treatment.

Oral Health

Dental implants require a healthy foundation. If you suffer from tooth decay or gum disease, this must first be addressed to reduce your risk of complications such as implant failure and infection.

Tobacco Use

Tobacco is not only bad for your overall health, but it is bad for your oral health. It can also increase your risk of complications such as implant failure. It is best to permanently cease all tobacco use before your implant procedure.

Anesthetic

Dr. Lopez and his team will ensure you are completely comfortable. He will thoroughly numb the area with local anesthetic and can administer sedation using nitrous oxide to help you relax.

Implant Placement

Depending on your needs, Dr. Lopez will place four to six implants into the jawbone along each arch. A small incision is made for each implant. An abutment is attached to the implant, which will secure your denture. In some cases, a temporary denture can be placed.

Healing

Over the next three to six months, the implants will fuse to the jawbone in a process called osseointegration.

Denture Placement

Once you are healed, you will have another appointment to have your permanent denture placed. Dentures are secured directly to the implants. You can then enjoy your beautiful new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions About Full Mouth Dental Implants in Albuquerque, NM

Question mark

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants are made of durable titanium and can last a lifetime with proper care. Your restoration will wear over time, but can last for up to 15 years or more before needing to be reaplaced.

Question mark

How do I care for my implant-supported dentures?

One of the many benefits of full mouth dental implants is that you care for them just like natural teeth. Brush and floss at least twice a day using a soft-bristled brush and non-abrasive toothpaste. Be sure to continue regular dental exams and cleanings to ensure your beautiful new smile lasts for years to come.

Question mark

Are there alternatives to full mouth dental implants?

One common treatment alternative to address complete tooth loss is traditional dentures. These are also known as removable dentures. While they are a more affordable option, they can easily shift or slip, and do not prevent bone atrophy. If bone loss is an issue preventing you from qualifying for dental implants, Dr. Lopez can help rebuild areas of loss with bone grafting.
